Thrift stores can be quite helpful. Shopping at thrift stores and other types of used stores or second hand stores can really help you not spend tons of money when you decorate your home. Identifying the good stuff at a thrift store gets easier over time and once you know how to do it you can save tons of money. With some creativity you can turn just about anything you find while thrift shopping into dcor. With some time and effort even a ratty old sweatshirt can be repurposed into a decorative item! The best donated items can be found in bigger cities or wealthy neighborhoods.

Take some time to explore the internet. Creators of all stripes are trying to use the internet to sell the things they make. Etsy is a just one of the popular websites through which unique and affordable dcor can be found. Many artists upload their work for free to community sites like Flickr where you can look through their portfolios for free. You can also purchase decorative art through artist's personal websites. Deals abound on the internet-shopping is no longer limited to Amazon and Ebay (though there are great bargains there as well!)

Stock photo websites and websites like Flickr are great for finding photos that you can print and use for decoration. Most of the work uploaded to a site like Flickr is considered "open source" and is free to save on your hard drive and then have printed in larger scale either with your own printer or at a print shop. It isn't hard to decorate with great photography if you know where to look for it! Using your own photos is another way to decorate with photography. There's a ton of affordable and free photo editing software that you can use to touch up your own photos so you can have them printed. Not only will you save lots of money by doing this, you'll have fun!

Quilts are great for adding charm to any home-even when they are used for something besides a bedspread. Look around-what functional item can you display? Most people forget that decorating can be done cheaply because they get caught up in the cost of brand new things. Get inspiration from the decorating schemes of your friends. When you see a decorating scheme you like ask yourself "how can I recreate this for less money?" Decorating can easily be done inexpensively. It is even possible to decorate without spending any money at all!
