Bring Contrast Into Your Garden Design

By Elden Kang

A subject like gardening can get people interested, but at the same time, send them away. The thing about gardening is that you have to learn the ins and outs of how to grow a prosperous garden. Tips like the ones in this article should help you do just that.

When planting rose bushes, the location is essential. You need to choose a location that gets plenty of direct sunlight. Roses need at least 6 hours of sunlight, in order to grow as large as they possibly can. It is important to find the perfect spot before planting them in your yard.

If you like to plant flowers that produce a lot of fragrance, consider planting them close to your house. One reason is that you can enjoy the scent whether you are inside or outside your house. Another reason is that the heat from the walls of your house can intensify the scent from your flowers, making them more fragrant.

You should get a heat lamp to warm your plants during the winter months if you are growing an indoor garden. Plants need a constant temperature around 65 degrees. It can be expensive to keep a home or apartment at that constant temperature. A heat lamp is a cheap and inexpensive way to give the plants the heat they need to grow.

Make a do it yourself twine holder by grabbing a rolled up length of twine and putting it into a small clay pot. Pull a small portion of the twine out the drainage hole and flip the pot upside down. You will always know where your twine is instead of digging around for it in a toolbox or shed.

Recycle your old pantyhose for garden use! Pantyhose make exceptional garden ties as they are very malleable, very strong and yet extremely soft, so they won't saw into the plants you are tying up. Best of all, since you are recycling, this solution is another great way to save money.

When you plant a new tree, make sure you are watering it enough. Trees need a lot of water as it is. Planting a new tree, or transplanting an existing tree, is a shock for the plant. Water daily for the first few weeks until the tree gets well established.

Fertilize the soil you are going to plant in three weeks before planting. By doing this, you are helping the soil improve its ability to retain nutrients and water, which are especially important for new plants. There are many fertilizers from which to choose at your local gardening store.

Make sure to keep your eye on your garden for pests. They can eat away your plants or foods and cause irreparable damage. If you do find them in your garden, it is important that you get rid of them as soon as possible before they reproduce and create more problems.

If one plants many different things in their garden then they will be rewarded with many different foods that they can now eat. By planting things that will grow well together such as a tomato plant with cucumbers on the ground below the tomato plant can increase the return from one's garden.

The best way to improve your soil is to amend it with different substances, depending on the type of soil you have. Most plants thrive in loamy soil, so adding organic mulches, such as peat moss or hummus, will add nutrients and improve the soil structure. Grass clippings are another material to add that will decay slowly into the soil and add valuable nutrients. Just make sure the grass doesn't have pesticide residue on the blades that might harm plant roots.

If the leaves on you plants curl and turn yellow, it may be aphid infestation. A sure sign that you have an infestation is by looking for ants around the plants. Ants are attracted to aphids by a sticky, sweet substance secreted by aphids. To rid yourself of aphids, spray the plants vigorously with water in the early morning until the aphids are under control.

If, like many, you've found gardening relaxing and fun, this article then helped you to further develop that green thumb. When you practice the points listed above, your gardening will grow fruits you haven't even yet imagined.
